Aftercare
Traditional Aftercare
Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your healing tattoo, if you have access to gloves please use them. Keywords to remember are - Keep it Comfortably Dry!
2 hours after, before bed, and 2x a day for 4 days post tattoo:
Rinse using massaging motions with your fingertips to cleanse the pores with lukewarm water, NEVER HOT as it can irritate the tattoo.
Wash using massaging motions with unscented antibacterial or antimicrobial pump soap, NEVER BAR SOAP as they can hold onto bacteria even when dry.
Dab dry with a paper towel to remove all moisture, never use a cloth towel as they can hold onto bacteria directly out of the wash.
Apply a lite amount of Redemption or a non-petroleum based ointment by gently massaging it into the tattoo with your fingertips
If the tattoo is ‘shiny’, dab with a clean piece of paper towel to remove any excess ointment.
Day 5 - 14 post tattoo:
Apply a lite amount of Redemption or unscented lotion such as Aveeno or Eucerin in massaging motions, if the tattoo is shiny after, pat with paper towel
Tegaderm Aftercare
(Clear adhesive bandage)
Leave on for 5-7days. DON’T WORRY! Fluid including plasma (clear) and possibly some blood and/or extra ink will ‘weep’ inside the bandage.
Remove by running hot water over the tegaderm to loosen the adhesive and gently peel off by pulling it over the tattoo, not stretching away from the skin.
After removal, wash with unscented antibacterial or antimicrobial pump soap
Dab dry with paper towel to remove any moisture
Apply a lite amount of Redemption or an unscented lotion such as Aveeno or Eucerin 2x a day for two weeks, if the tattoo is ‘shiny’, dab with a clean piece of paper towel to remove any excess ointment
- The only time you should be concerned is -
If any fluid from inside the bandage seeps outside the bandage, the environment may have become unsanitary in which bacteria could gain access to your tattoo.
If you develop a rash, you may have a slight adhesive allergy.
If either of these happen, please remove and refer to traditional aftercare instructions.
FOR TWO WEEKS:
DO NOT soak your tattoo, this includes baths, saunas, profuse sweating, swimming.
DO NOT allow your tattoo to be in direct sunlight.
DO NOT itch your tattoo.
REMEMBER! Your fresh tattoo is like a wet painting, how you take care of it will determine how it looks FOREVER.
